SCOTT, Almeda Mildred (nee Lindstrom) April 25, 1927 - October 23, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Almeda Scott at 86 years of age. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Blayney, Almeda is survived by her children, Ian (Louise), Rosalind, Kevin (Rosemary) and Megan (Bill) and by grandchildren, Courtenay, Eric, Hanna, Anna, Alexandra and Graham. She will be dearly missed by many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Born in Wadena, Saskatchewan to Ernest and Sophia Lindstrom, Almeda grew up on the family farm as one of eleven children. After graduating from Wadena High School, she, along with her two younger sisters, joined their eldest sister in Victoria in 1945. She later met Blayney Scott and they married in 1951. As newlyweds they moved aboard the Geni, a 36 foot troller that Blayney had built and fished the west coast of Vancouver Island. In 1952 they decided to move ashore in Victoria to start a family as well as a new business, Scott Plastics Ltd. Almeda managed to balance the hard work of a fledgling business along with the demands of raising four young children and eventually saw Scott Plastics become the world wide manufacturer of fishing and outdoor products that it is today. Almeda was a gifted seamstress, dress designer and knitter. She loved music, singing alto in several local choirs, as well as being an accomplished pianist. She played many sports as a young girl and eagerly followed the athletic and artistic accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. For over 40 years, she enjoyed cruising local waters on the family boat, Messenger III. Despite the top-loading fridge, she produced countless meals from the tiny galley but more importantly, the coffee pot was always on for those who happened by. She was a true pioneer and leaves a huge legacy, but it was her warm and friendly way that endeared her to all who knew her.
