Richard Henry Alexander Grubb was born on 17 August 1912.[1] He is the son of Frederick Ernest Grubb and Hilda Margaret McClintock.[2],[1] He married, firstly, Lily Elizabeth Simpson in 1931.[1] He and Lily Elizabeth Simpson were divorced.[1] He married, secondly, Peggie Lilian Dackombe, daughter of John Dackombe, on 28 June 1949.[1]
He was educated in the U.S.A.[1] He was educated at Lower Canada College, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.[1] He gained the rank of officer between 1929 and 1937 in the The Black Watch.[1] He fought in the Second World War, with the Singapore Volunteer Corps and Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.[1] He was with the Prisons Service in Australasia, British Columbia and Shanghai.[1] He lived at 18 Durham Street, Te Atatu North, Auckland, New Zealand.[1]
