Gilbert S Watts, 89, of Box 10, Logan Spring Farm, Bellwood, died Tuesday morning, Sept. je, 1M* at Altoona Hospital following a brief Illness. He was born Dec. [...], 1896 aKnoxVllle, Tenn., the son of Dr. Ralph L. and Harriet Searte Watts. On June 29, 1918 at Rock, Centre County, he was married to Mary Lytle. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Betty Jacobus, of Logan Spring Farm Bellwood; six grand children, six greatgrandchildren and one brother and one sister, Curtis M. Watts, of Spring Mills, and Grace W Bell, of Wooster, Ohio. One daughter, Marjorle W. Dixon, preceded him in death. A self-employed farmer, vegetable i grower, Christmas tree producer and fc-eeder of prize-winning Angus beef cattle, he was a member of the Logan Valley Presbyterian Church and a 1918 graduate or The Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor of science degree in horticulture. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War 1 and a graduate of the first naval air class at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a charter member of the , Bellwood-Anlis Lions Club and had been a professor of .horticulture at Massachusetts College. The author of two .books on vegetable farming, he wrote a weekly column on vegetable 'gardening for 25 years for the Pennsylvania Farmer magazine. He was a recipient of the Master Farmer Award of Pennsylvania and was past president and secretary of the'Pennsylvania Angus Breeders Association and the American Angus . Association. He was selected "Man of the Year, for the Pennsylvania Cattlemen's Association, and selected "Cattleman of the Year" for the. Pennsylvania Cattlemen's Association and was selected "Seed Stock Producer of Pennsylvania." He was past president of the Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association, served on the 1 Blair County Draft Board 'during World War Hand was past president of the Production Credit Association of Blair County. His cattle herd was named "Historic Angus Herd of Pennsylvania." He was past president of the Bellwood-Antis , School board and was twice featured in 'the. nationally recognized Magazine of Angus Breeders.
