Halve Maen, Fall-Winter 1979

Robert Perry Schermerhorn of Snyder, Niagara County, N.Y., a member of the The Holland Society of New York since 1950, died at the age of 71 on Monday, August 20, 1979. Descended from Jacob Janse Schermerhorn who in 1636 came to this country from Amsterdams, the Netherlands, he was born at Ann Arbor, Mich., April 20, 1980, son of Milne P. Schermerhorn and Loretta H. Dunleavy. A retired accounting firm executive and long active in civic affiars, he was graduated from the Wharton School of Finance of the University of Pennsylvania in 1930. Qualified as a Certified Public Accountant, he moved to Buffalo in 1939 and later established his own company. When his firm merged with Touche Ross & Co. in 1966, he became partner in charge of the Buffalo office of the internationally known firm, and was a senior vice president at the time of his retirement in 1973. Formerly a president of the Buffalo Area Chamber of Commerce, and a vice-president and treasurer of the State Chamber, he was active in the New York State Society of CPAs, the National Asociation of Cost Accountants, and numerous other professional organizations. A past president of Buffalo Rotary and the Rotary Crippled Childrens Camp, and a director of Deaconess Hospital, he had been president of the University of Pennsylvania Club of Western New York and national president of the Associated University of Pennsylvania Clubs. He was a member of the Buffalo Club, the Country Club of Buffalo, Sons of the American Revolution and Alphia Chi Rho fraternity. His grandfather was a Holland Society member. He is survived by his wife, the former Justine Ross; a son, James R. Schermerhorn of San Lorenzo, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. J. Vaughan Millane, Jr. of Amherst, N.Y.; two brothers; a sister, and seven grandchildren. Interment followed the services held in St. Benedict's Church, August 23.

Robert P. Schermerhorn merged his practice in Buffalo with TRB & S last September. He is now Partner in Charge of the Buffalo office. A long-time resident of Buffalo, he graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics in 1930. After taking graduate study at the State University of Buffalo he formed Robert P. Schermerhorn & Company in 1943.

Mr. Schermerhorn is a member of AICPA, New York Society of CPA's, the American Accountants Association, and the National Association of Accountants. He has been a member of the Council of Accountancy for the State of New York since 1961 and has been Vice Chairman of the Council since 1965. He has lectured on taxation at the University of Buffalo, and has served as president of the University of Pennsylvania Alumni clubs. A past director of the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Schermerhorn is presently chairman of its Taxation Committee. He has-been a director of the Empire State Chamber of Commerce since 1963, and is currently a member of its Taxation Committee. He is, in addition, treasurer and director of the Hospital Review and Planning Council of Western New
York.

He and his wife have a son and a daughter.
