Narrative
A note on a bureau in Virginia Donohue's bedroom reads:
"This bureau was brought from Cumberland County, Pa., in the year 1800 by Thomas and Margaret McClure who settled in Pike Township, Clearfield County, Pa. It was left to their daughter Jennie and by the latter to her sister Mrs. Mary McClure Hoyt; it then passed to the posession of Elizabeth Marion Hoyt Watts and in September of the year 1905 the latter presented it to Mrs. Mary McClure Watts Work.
This bureau is not to be sold or to pass to the ownership of any person or person except the direct descendeants of the Elizabeth Marion Hoyt Watts aforenamed. The history of the bureau prior to 1800 is unknown. It was known as "Martha Washington style of of furniture."
"Mrs. Mary McClure Watts work (Mrs. Jeremiah Boston Work) died at Wheaton, Mass. on Dec. 7 1951. The bureau descended to her daughter, Miss Eunice Work, Professor of Latin and Greek at Wheaton College. She died at Staunton, Va. January 1961. The bureau passed to Miss Virginia Mary Grubb, Coalinga, Ca., daughter of Silvia Work Grubb, namesake of Mary McClure Watts Work and Grandniece of Eunice Work."
