Longtime Walla Walla resident, Sharon Colleen Smith, passed away at her home Monday, May 7, 2012 surrounded by her loving husband and family.

At 84-years-old, she leaves us all with her strong legacy of sincere kindness, strong support, inspiration, encouragement and compassion for others while living life to its fullest… all with such spunk, love & laughter.

Sharon was the third child born July 6, 1927 to Dewey C. Donohue and Marguerite Hopkins Donohue in Dayton, Washington. She was a 1945 graduate of Dayton High School continuing her studies at The University of Idaho from 1945 to 1947. She then graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Walla Walla in 1950.

On September 3, 1950, she married Theron E. Smith in Dayton, Washington. As a great supporter of many national and local organizations, Sharon was also very active in her Walla Walla community. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Choir while serving 41-years as its Chairwoman of Lent Soup ‘N Pie Luncheons. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Nursing School Alumnae, Washington State Retired Nurses, Columbia County Grain Growers, The Dayton Farm Bureau, The Walla Walla Country Club, Member of P.E.O. Chapter BI, Walla Walla Junior Club, Walla Walla Symphony Guild, The Four Seasons, Priest Lake Yacht Club, Crystals and a member of Coffee Club for 59 years. And as a strong believer of Democracy, if you didn’t know she was a Democrat, she let it be known….

Sharon leaves her husband, Theron Smith and four children: daughter Chele Smith Guess of Walla Walla, son Reed Smith (wife Robin) of Medina, WA, daughter Casi C. Smith of Walla Walla/Newport Beach, CA and daughter Shannon Smith-McKeown (husband Pat), also of Walla Walla. Two granddaughters: Casi E. Also, sisters Janis Nysoe of Walla Walla and Dwyla Donohue of Seattle, WA…along with numerous nieces, nephews and a multitude of devoted friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Marguerite Donohue, brothers Hubert & Patrick Donohue, and nephews Ryan Donohue & Greg Nysoe.

Services will be held May 25th beginning at 11:30am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walla Walla followed by a "Celebration of Life” Reception at The Walla Walla Country Club.

“Remember me as you pass by, for as are you so once was I, and as I am you too will be, so be content to follow me.”
