Enlisted 17 Sept. 1862 in 13th Regt., New York Volunteers. Transferred to 140th Regt. Captured at Florence, South Carolina. Discharged June 13, 1865. Captured at Gaines' Mills, VA June 2, 1864. Confined at Richmond, VA June 3, 1864. Sent to Andersonville, GA June 8, 1864.

 

From an affadavit dated February 14, 1891:

"While a prisonoer of war at Florence South Carolina while carrying timbers to build a hopsital for the sick he slipped and fell through the trussel work of a RR bridge which he was crossing adn ruptured the veins of the left leg. This was about January or February 1865. About the same time he contracted rheumatism which has resulted in disease of the heart."
