Tom Gore, a longtime resident of Healdsburg, died suddenly Dec. 19, 2009, after a successful morning of duck hunting near Biggs, CA. Born in San Jose on June 6, 1945, Tom was the son of the late Norman A. and Edith Williams Gore. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 1967. Tom served in the U.S. Peace Corps from 1968-1970 as part of Fiji I, the first group of volunteers to serve on the island. He returned to Cal Poly to earn a Master's Degree in International Agricultural Business then worked for World Neighbors in Oklahoma and abroad. Tom returned to California where he began a successful career in Sonoma County as a vineyard manager and partner in Vyborny Vineyard Management. An avid outdoorsman, he loved bird hunting, fishing, crabbing, barbequing and gardening and he shared these passions with his family and friends alike. Tom was a member of many hunting clubs, and a supporter of Ducks Unlimited. Surviving are his family: wife Susan Peterman Gore of Healdsburg, children Thomas Armistead Gore, Jr. of Healdsburg, James Morehead Gore IV of Washington, D.C., Katharine Russell and Cooper Morgan Gore of Healdsburg; sisters Gwen Bachman and Cynthia Gore of Bend, Oregon; brother Douglas Norman Gore of Prosser, Washington; cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends. “Those who knew Tom are likely to remember a man with a sparkling charisma, a crackling wit, and genuine warmth for his family and friends.” A memorial to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at the Alexander Valley Community Hall at 5512 Highway 128, Geyserville, California.
