"Alexander came to America in 1743, along with his 3 brothers (Allen, John and James). They located in the Cumberland Valley, Cumberland County, PA, near Big Spring (now called Newville)...

It is said they purchased their 1st land from John Penn, a son of William Penn. Alexander and Allen remained in that section; many of their children moved westward. Both Alexander and Allen were active in the church work at Big Spring during their entire lives...

"He had 21 children by his two wives, Rachel Leith and Rachel Ireland, and lived to see them all to maturity before his death in 1796."
