Narrative

The fourth child and third son of Henry Roper (1676-1723), 8th Baron Teynham, and Lady Anne Lennard (1684-1755), 16th Baroness Dacre.

Though he started out to follow a military career, Richard Roper soon changed course and studied to become an Anglican priest. Upon qualification he was granted the living of Clones, in County Monaghan, Ireland, which was in the patronage of his half-brother Thomas Barrett-Lennard, 17th Lord Dacre.

Rector of Clones for many decades. Husband of Mary Chetwynd (died at or shortly after the birth of their child Mary in 1758) and his second wife Jane Mary Tenison (seven or eight children).
