Obituary for David Stansfield

Peacefully at Ottawa General Hospital on Saturday September 27, 2014. David Stansfield of Portland, in his 96th year. David graduated from the University of Alberta in 1939, and worked as a reporter and assistant editorial writer at the Calgary Herald. He served in the R.C.N. from 1941-46 at sea in the Western Atlantic and was a diplomat in the Canadian Foreign Service with posts in Ottawa, Moscow, Paris, Belgrade, Athens, New York City, Canberra, Berlin, Cairo and Kuala Lumpur. He enjoyed golfing, curling, languages, literature and art. He is survived by his wife, Madeleine, son, Robin Andrew (Janeen), a daughter, Kathryn (Harry) Angus and a granddaughter, Amanda Stansfield. Predeceased by his first wife, Bernice. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made to the Community and Primary Health Care or the Lanark Animal Welfare Society would be appreciated by the family.
