Garnett Work Payne

Garnett Work Payne unexpectedly passed away while vacationing with her husband in Honduras, January 22, 2023.

Garnett was born April 29, 1961 in Greensboro, NC to Jim and Arlene Work. Garnett attended elementary school in Greensboro, NC and most of junior high in Costa Mesa, California. In 1976, Garnett moved with her parents to Katy, Texas and graduated from Katy High School (1978).

Garnett received her undergraduate degree in education from Texas A&M (1982), master’s degree from Sam Houston State University, and Ph.D. in Kinesiology from Texas A&M.

Garnett married Charles Payne, April 9, 1995. Charles and Garnett brought Morgan Payne into this world in February of 1999. They lived in Chesterfield Michigan, Fairplay and Frisco, Colorado, and most recently at the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

Garnett was a loving mother, wife and sister who treasured her family and friends each day of her life. She enjoyed traveling, exercise, her career as a Safety Consultant and meeting new friends. She also loved boating, skiing, and attending Country Western concerts. Garnett was a high energy, selfless individual who always contributed to a good cause to help others who were less fortunate.

Garnett is survived by her husband Charlie, daughter Morgan, brother Tim Work and her nieces and nephews.

Garnett’s parents Jim and Arlene, and brother Cliff Work predeceased Garnett’s passing.

Garnett was loved by all who knew her and will be missed, but never forgotten. We will keep her close to our hearts while she continues to be with us in spirit.
