Lydia Hodgkin, B.A., is the daughter of J. Ernest and H. Rebecca Grubb, and was born at Carrick-on-Suir. She was educated at Saffron Walden, York, and Westfield College, and is a graduate of London University. While at Chester House in 1902, she attended the Maria Grey Training College. In 1903 she sailed for Madagascar, where she taught in the Girls' School, Tananarive, and in 1905 married Harold Olaf Hodgkin, of Darlington. They settled at Amboniriana and have one child, a daughter, born in 1906.
