James Work moved beyond the river to the Cumberland Valley of Pa. where he married and lived and owned land. He was taxed in Cumberland County for 100 acres in Hopewell twp, 1760-1763, Newton twp, 1767-82. His widow was taxed in Newton twp, 1785. The widow and children were shown as members of Big Spring Presbyterian Church at Newville, Pa. in 1785. The entry in Swope's history of that church has been misread previously and it has been thought that two persons listed as S. Work appeared in the record. This has been proven to be the names of Letitia (Scott) Work and her daughter, Letitia. The L was picked up as an S. It is evident, however, that it is an entire listing of the above family shortly after the death of the father and husband, James Work.
