Narrative
"Frederick, the third son, who had been baptised as an adult and also married in Cahir Church to a local girl, Edith Going, shortly after his mother's death was given the "twin" Barrack House, empty since Richard and Maria had moved up the road into Cahir Abbey. He and Edith had another "batch" of eleven children born in this healthy home, all of them baptised in Cahir Church, five male Grubbs and six daughters, who later married into the Maynard, Stansfiel, Holdcroft, McClintock and Riley families.
All seemed set for Frederick to succeed his father eventually at Cahir Abbey, until financial misfortune necessitated the sale of the Abbey after Richard's death, and Frederick migrated to California, where he died in 1919. One of his sons, also named Richard after his grandfather, a brilliant lawyer, returned to Dublin and became one of the leading barristers in that Fair City. Several of Frederick's sons entered the Army and served in World Wars I and II, and a grandson, another Richard, was a prison-erof-war in the hands of the Japanese, and is now settled in a commanding position in Vancouver. A youngest son is often particularly dear to his parents, and Richard Grubb saw more of GEORGE, his youngest son during the last fifteen years of his life than any of the others. He was outstandingly tall, and was only 14 when his Mother died. He gave his father companionship and also religious enthusiasms and interests fully to occupy them."
